Through 2020, we’ve all had to weather the storms of this Covid shit-fest.
Through it all, I’ve been awed by brides and grooms determined to have the day of their dreams. In whatever way they can. Whether that’s to postpone, reduce numbers or simply elope.
Maurice and Heidi met in October 2019, by December they were engaged and by 25th April 2020 they were meant to be married.
As we are all too aware of, Covid happened. This shit-fest meant the world was turned upside down, we all had to slow down, re-boot, re-calculate, shift, cry, melt, and comfort eat ourselves through this mess. No, just me then.
This resilient, loved up couple were determined. They weren’t going to let a small thing like a world pandemic stop them from getting married. They forged on, holding a small intimate legal ceremony at their local registry office in the Netherlands. They were so hell bent on getting married on their day that they did it alone. With two witnesses. After which they left on the back of a scooter. Epic!
Despite being legally married, they still wanted to get married at Sao Lourenço church with wedding dinner at Maria’s restaurant in Vale do Lobo. Maurice said ‘I knew, if I was ever to get married, it would be here at Igreja de Sao Lourenço, no where else would do, I love it here’.
