Magical boho Gougane Barra wedding. Nature’s bohemian dream wedding, St. Finbarr’s Oratory, Gougane Barra
Fiona and Jason’s pared down fairy-tale boho wedding at St. Finbarr’s Oratory, Gougane Barra had everything that is important to them – family, nature and doing things their way. Their day was jaw-dropping and fierce romantic. Boho Gougane Barra wedding.
With their elopement already done in New York City, the day was for sharing their dream with family and each other. Surrounded by incredible woodland and gentle sloping mountains, St Finbarr’s Oratory sits upon Gougane Barra lake – a gift for photographer and wedding party. It was so perfect for Jason and Fiona’s nature-infused style.
Break with tradition & have a bohemian wedding
I was excited about documenting this celebration from the moment I heard their plans. It was brilliant just to walk through the day and experience its magic.
Fiona and Jason started their morning like it was any other day. This gorgeous couple blended in plenty of private time together. The morning was my first chance to capture them, looking totally loved up and chilled.
Mum’s helping hand makes a day unique
Fiona’s mum is amazing. She put together so many unique crafted pieces that made Fiona even more beautiful, and decorated the day.
Fiona combined a gorgeous, embroidered Needle and Thread wedding dress with a shawl specially made by her mother who also crafted the handmade flower crown, bouquets and even transformed a broach Fiona’s grandmother once wore into a simple necklace. So, weddings can be time for families’ talents to shine and grace the occasion with meaningful mementoes.
Make time for a sneak peek in Gougane Barra’s forest
A sneak peek lets you catch your breath with your beloved. They are a great way to settle any nerves and give you time together before walking down the aisle. Also, I love them because they mean I can have fun with my couple, snatching precious, relaxed photos away from the madness of the wedding party.
What happens on a sneak peek
If you’re wondering about doing a sneak peek, my advice is, “Do it.” They are precious time for you and your partner to gather yourselves before the ceremony. For Fiona and Jason’s, I drove Fiona to a pre-arranged spot in the sumptuous forest.
Meanwhile, with his back to where Fiona would enter, Jason waited in the midst of the glade. Flanked by towering pine and oak, with soft sunlight pushing through the green and leafy canopy, looking like they were about to explode with happiness, Fiona laid her hand upon Jason’s shoulder letting him know he could turn and see her. Smiles burst amongst the happy pair as they absorbed the transformation each had made.
Celtic magic on the banks of Gougane Barra Lake
As Jason’s father played Uilleann Pipes, creating a Celtic, ethereal ambience, the wedding party gathered as Fiona’s brother walked her down the aisle. After the ceremony, Fiona and Jason rowed away in a wooden boat to enjoy time and a bottle of Champagne. Later, the wedding party returned to Gougane Barra Hotel, the perfect end to their fairy tale wedding.
